Elyssa’s Mission will host its 19th annual benefit, Voices of Hope: An Evening Embracing Elyssa’s Mission, on Thursday, July 16 from 5:30 – 9 p.m. at The Glen Club in Glenview. We hope that you will consider sponsoring this important event.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people ages 10-34 (CDC, 2017). To challenge this statistic, Elyssa’s Mission has taken a leadership role in Illinois by educating school communities on depression and suicide. Since inception, we have educated well over one million students, parents, school staff and community members.
Elyssa’s Mission is a non-profit organization that provides resources to support at-risk teens and prevent suicide. Elyssa’s Mission fully funds and implements the evidence-based Signs of Suicide (SOS) program in middle and high schools throughout Illinois.
The SOS program not only educates teens on warning signs and what to do if they are concerned about themselves or a friend but further helps identify at-risk students and link them to essential mental health services. We assist with all components of the SOS program including planning, training, teaching and follow-up.
During the 2024–25 school year, SOS reached 87,939 students. As a result of screening, 5,697 students (13.4%) received a follow-up interview from school mental health staff. Schools ultimately referred 1,439 students (6.5%) for additional mental health services or further evaluation. Most critically, 92 students were immediately hospitalized due to imminent risk of suicide. Because of SOS—and because of supporters like you—lives were saved.
