Postvention is an organized immediate, short-term, and long-term response to a suicide. Its goals include promoting healing among students, staff, and parents, and minimizing its potential negative effects on school communities exposed to a suicide.
Elyssa’s Mission partnered with Jonathan Singer, Ph.D., leading expert in the field of suicide prevention and postvention and member of the Elyssa’s Mission Advisory Board, to launch a video series covering foundational policies schools should have in place before the unfortunate event of a student suicide. Our series addresses five components that are vital to a school’s postvention practices.
